Irdeto Submits Cloakware Security Provider For Fips 140-2 Federal Validation

Irdeto Provides Agencies with Single Solution for Critical Digital Asset Protection through Cloakware Password Authority

Vienna, VA — December 8, 2009 — Irdeto, a leading expert in content and business model protection solutions and services, today announced that the Cloakware Security Provider –a critical component of the Cloakware Password Authority (CPA) enterprise offering has been placed on the Modules in Process List for the Federal Information Processing Standards Publications (FIPS) 140-2 Validation: Security Requirements for Cryptographic Modules. Cloakware Password Authority currently supports FIPS 140-2 validated Hardware Security Modules (HSM), but the addition of this software security provider validation now offers comprehensive key protection across all components of the solution. Irdeto’s Cloakware Password Authority is again raising the bar by setting a new standard for security in the Privileged Account Management (PAM) space.

FIPS 140-2 validation from the U.S. Commerce Department's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is a rigorous evaluation of the cryptographic functions utilized to protect communication of sensitive digital assets. By certifying the underlying technology of its solutions, Irdeto continues to drive highest-level security practices for scalable, enterprise-wide protection of information assets within one platform. To navigate the approval process, Irdeto has partnered with industry experts Corsec Security, Inc. to provide validation consulting, and Domus IT Security Laboratory (ITSL) to deliver testing and validation services.

“Corsec is proud to be working with Irdeto on their FIPS 140-2 validation," said Matthew Appler, CEO and co-founder of Corsec Security. "Undergoing this complex government security standard clearly demonstrates Irdeto’s strong commitment to providing customers with proven independent third-party assurance regarding the company’s products.”

“As their reliance increases on contract workers, government agencies need to strengthen their security practices and preserve trust within the core of their IT systems,” noted Said Rahmani Khezri, senior vice president Cloakware. “Using Irdeto’s highest-level security solutions, government agencies can solve their privileged information, database and application access issues within one comprehensive software solution.”

The cryptographic security provider is an integral part of the Cloakware Password Authority solution for PAM - which gives government agencies and enterprises operational control over their IT systems, devices and applications. The security provider is built on patented white-box technology and standards-based Java cryptographic architecture and algorithms, providing defense-in-depth for end-to-end data security and protection of keying materials.

Validation will give federal, state and local agencies as well as commercial organizations the confidence to deploy Cloakware Password Authority with the assurance that keys are protected at the central server(s) and all end-points of the system. In addition, federal procurement agencies will be able to take advantage of Irdeto’s listing on the GSA Information Technology (IT) Schedule 70.
