Irdeto’s Cloakware Hosts Workshop To Drive Awareness Of White-Box Security and Software Protection in China

Beijing, China — December 11, 2009 — Irdeto, a leading expert in content and business model protection solutions and services, today announced that its Cloakware product group is working with the State Key Laboratory of Information Security (SKLOIS), part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS); and the University of Arizona, USA to address growing White-Box security threats such as the Man-At-The-End (MATE)™ attacks.

Irdeto's Cloakware will share its security expertise at a workshop on December 12, 2009 to discuss the latest challenges of software security including raising the awareness of the threat from White-Box attacks. Targeting research scientists, graduate students and security professionals, the event will be led by Andrew Wajs, CTO of Irdeto and Yuan Xiang Gu, Co-founder and Chief Architect of Cloakware. Also participating will be Dr. Chuan-Kun Wu from the Institute of Software, CAS and Professor Christian Collberg of the University of Arizona.

“As computers and electronic devices play an increasingly important role in modern life, the value of content and services deployed on these devices grows exponentially – and so does their attractiveness to hackers,” said Yuan Xiang Gu, Co-founder and Chief Architect of Cloakware. “Our goal is to build trusted software security that can effectively protect against White-Box threats such as ‘Man-at-the-End’ attacks and renew security when such attacks are detected. Effective security throughout the entire lifecycle is becoming absolutely essential for companies whose business models rely on the successful protection and monetization of their digital assets.”

At threat from White-Box attacks today are hand-held devices; consumer electronics; home networks; on-line banking, Internet shopping and other applications relying on wireless connectivity and DRM and Conditional Access systems for cable and satellite.

“Cloakware represents the next generation of encryption technology and is very important for Irdeto’s future growth, so we are pleased to exchange ideas with the scientific and academic community here in Beijing,” said Andrew Wajs, Chief Technology Officer of Irdeto.

The Irdeto and Cloakware brands are synonymous with trust and protection, providing innovative, proven solutions that assist customers in enterprise, media, broadcast, broadband, mobile, gaming and government applications. With over one billion deployed applications today on PCs, set-top boxes, mobile phones and media players, Irdeto’s Cloakware security product is the security cornerstone of many of the world’s largest, most recognizable and technologically advanced companies.
