Irdeto Provides Customer Care and Billing Solution For Telenor Group Across Scandinavia

Telenor Enlists Irdeto to Support its Drive to Attract and Retain Broadband and TV Customers Across Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands – 2 March 2010 – Irdeto, a leading expert in content and business model protection solutions and services, today announced that it has implemented its robust customer care and billing solution for long term customer Telenor Group in Denmark for Pay TV. The solution will also be rolled out in Sweden, Norway and Finland in the next months to provide Telenor with a flexible solution that enables the effective management of multi-play services, streamlined workflows, improved efficiencies and increased average revenue per user (ARPU).

Telenor, a global provider of telecommunications services with over 172 million subscribers, will introduce the Irdeto solution for direct to home (DTH) and cable service customers across all four countries. The DTH side of the business will be upgrading to this latest iteration of Irdeto’s solution from the company’s prior version that has been running successfully for several years. Telenor decided to make the upgrade because the Irdeto solution offers flexibility, modularity, and the ability to scale with the organization.

An increasingly competitive pay TV market in Scandinavia, means that to maintain a competitive edge, Telenor needed to develop comprehensive solutions to build and retain subscribers.

“The decision to deploy Irdeto’s new customer care and billing solution across the entire Scandinavian operation was made in light of our ambitious growth plans to retain our number one position in Norway and continue to gain market share across the other regions. To achieve this, it will be essential to offer customers a flexible care and billing solution that will enable pre-paid functionality,” said Trond Ove Breivik VP & CIO, Telenor Broadcast Holding AS. “Having worked successfully with Irdeto for around ten years, it was clear that its new BSS or customer care and billing solution would allow Telenor to create sustainable and attractive business models to improve the service offered to customers."

"Irdeto understands that pay media operators like Telenor benefit from a modular, scalable customer care and billing solution that can be accessed via a Web browser and will interface easily with their banks and any other systems they use. Irdeto’s customer care and billing solution was designed to enable multiplay operators in more than 40 countries to reduce customer churn, increase ARPU, decrease time-to-market and reduce total cost of ownership,” commented Brian Forssman, senior vice president of Irdeto’s Business Support Systems (BSS).

According to research analyst group, Forrester, by 2014, less than 10% of European TV sets in use will receive analog TV and there will be an intensification of competition in the Western European TV market. This means that, in a more digitized market, it will be the providers that implement more flexible pricing offers, and focus primarily on customer retention that will succeed.
