Irdeto Holds First Annual Media Executive Roundtable in Russia During CSTB 2011

Moscow, Russia - Feb. 28, 2011 — Irdeto, a global software security and media technology company, hosted a unique business breakfast roundtable discussion at the 13th International Exhibition and Conference CSTB-2011 with 40 leaders of the media and telecommunications industry to discuss future trends, threats and opportunities in the media landscape. The discussion centered on the changing consumer expectations regarding how people prefer to consume video, and the need for traditional TV providers to reorganize their thinking, technology and business practices to meet those consumer needs. The conclusion was that it's no longer about vertical distribution channels like satellite and cable, but about having flexible solutions to deliver the content consumers love to any video screen they own.

This event gathered leading TV industry companies, including: AMT group, DalGeoCom, GeoTelecommunications, Kentavr, Orion Express, Sitronics, Ren TV, Sistema Mass Media, STREAM Television Company, Telco Group, Universal, MCI Europa OU, Disney CIS, VGTRK, Jet InfoSystems, Akado, NTV, Cosmos TV Minsk, Tomtel, Digital TV, Tsyfra TV, Sistema, Comstar-Regions Rostov, Quantumm, Humax, Oracle.

David Canellos, SVP Sales and Marketing at Irdeto opened the debate and called upon Christopher Schouten, Senior Director of Solutions Marketing at Irdeto to explain how consumption of content is changing, as consumers increasingly demand the ability to access content anywhere, any time on any device, in what Irdeto calls the Media 3.0 world.

Christopher said: "In 2010 there was a redefinition of the value chain in our industry. Broadband penetration opened up new opportunities for consumers to seek alternative sources for content and for pay TV operators to offer content on multiple devices via the Internet. The resulting competition has created a situation where content has been commoditized and the key differentiator for any service provider is now the overall consumer experience — it must be flexible, interactive, personal, portable and socially connected. If we don't step up to the challenge, consumers will always have another choice. Irdeto has the building blocks and the partners to create the Media 3.0 reality for pay TV operators."

To help customers prepare for the Media 3.0 world and putting the consumer in charge of how and where they consume content, Irdeto has drawn on its experience to develop flexible solutions which will serve an evolving need in terms of content delivery, user experience, customer management and user metrics data.

"I think it's very important to discuss popular industry themes and issues. At present, those involved in the process of delivery of content to subscribers are; the content provider, operator and system integrator. Each of these participants is monitoring the business opportunities that new access technologies will afford them and looking to find their proper place in the Media 3.0 value chain," said Zaven Kirakosov, Director of the Digital TV Systems Department, AMT Group.

"It's always interesting to debate evolving trends in the broadcast industry. In particular, the discussion about implementations of Irdeto's technology for some of the world's leading companies and their feedback on market development, as outlined by Christopher Schouten from Irdeto, was of real insight. At Orion Express, we also prioritize innovation. For example, we try to offer our content across mobile platforms in order to provide more opportunities for access to content for our customers," said Roman Barannikov, CFO, Orion Express.

David Canellos summarized the event saying: "This event was our first but will not be our last. I am happy and proud of the fact that now we can come together — from all sections of the industry — and work together to ensure we all continue to meet changing consumer needs and demands."
