AMSTERDAM – 07 April 2014 – As US and UK premieres hit the screens, Game of Thrones leads The Walking Dead as the most illegally downloaded TV show internationally in the early part of 2014, according to new data from Irdeto. Torrents collected and tracked by Irdeto’s Business Intelligence unit from over 100 top Torrent Index sites across the globe between January and February 2014, The download data collected from peers sharing these files shows that illegal downloads of Game of Thrones internationally reached over 1.4 million – almost 50 per cent more than any other title.

As premieres are advertised and new series of these hit shows begin, it’s clear that those who either don’t subscribe to the appropriate channels or platforms, or those who simply cannot wait for the scheduled programming to begin, are looking at alternative means of viewing. The Walking Dead, the second most popular show for illegal downloads, is followed by hit shows like Homeland, Breaking Bad and Dexter and other key titles for the main broadcasters across the globe.
